Pleasant Benning Patterson, III

SAVANNAH - Pleasant Benning ("P.B.") Patterson, III, 74, died on May 30, 2012 after a short stay at Hospice Savannah.
P.B. was born in Columbus, Georgia, on August 26, 1937, son of the late Pleasant Benning Patterson, Jr. and Leila Parks Patterson. The family moved to Savannah in the 1940's where P.B. attended the public schools and graduated from Savannah High School in 1955. P.B. spent many years at the University of Georgia in Athens where he enjoyed himself immensely, making friends, living in the Kappa Alpha fraternity house, frequenting the well known local watering holes, and occasionally attending classes. Following his university days, P.B. moved to Atlanta and became the district group manager for Crown Life Insurance Company. He returned to Savannah for several years before moving to Forsyth, Georgia, in 1983 where he cared for his grandmother Sarah Castleberry Parks until her death in 1997. In 1999, P.B. again returned to Savannah and worked for a number of years at John B. Rourke clothiers. P.B. was an avid reader and during his life acquired a vast knowledge of world history. Among his particular interests was the historical development of European languages. He also loved jazz music from the 1940's and the Georgia Bulldogs.
He is survived by his sister Susan Patterson McRaney and her husband Jim, of Warner Robbins, his two brothers John and Fred, of Atlanta, his nephew Walter Harden, of Warner Robbins and three of his closest friends, Lisa and Tom Gray and their dog Reba, of Savannah.
His family greatly appreciates the love and support shown to him in his later years by his Kappa Alpha brothers and their continued presence in his life during his last days.
Following cremation, P.B. will be buried in a family plot in Forsyth. A celebration of his life will be held in Savannah at a later date at which time his many friends and acquaintances will share their memories of P.B.
Remembrances may be given to the Humane Society of Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406, or Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416.
